St Timothy Parish is home to many homeschoolers. Many factors go into the decision to homeschool:
- Our responsibility as parents in being the primary educators of our children.
- The ability to tailor the type and pace of a curriculum based on our children’s academic abilities.
- Integration of faith and morality into the “classroom.”
- Flexibility in scheduling extracurricular activities, travel and employment opportunities.
- Exposure to a broader range of educational environments and peers compared to a traditional classroom.
- Strengthening of the family bond through love of learning.
- Efficient use of financial resources.
Homeschooling can seem challenging, whether you are starting with a 5 year old or a Sophomore in highschool. The good news is that there are many resources available: parishioners with real life experience, homeschool conferences, on-line curricula, books, and coops to name a few.
There is even an option for home taught CCD through St Timothy Church, so that your child can prepare for the sacraments with a curriculum that you teach (and learn!)
