RCIA

Welcome! We, the St. Timothy Parish clergy and lay faithful, are delighted you are inquiring about the Catholic faith!

Whether you are seeking God for the first time, are an already baptized Christian of a different denomination, a baptized Catholic who has fallen away from the Church, or a practicing Catholic who desires to grow deeper in understanding of the Catholic faith — wherever you are in your journey of faith, we invite you to come to RCIA. and see what the Catholic faith is all about.

RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults)

RCIA is the Catholic Church’s way of teaching and passing on the faith, a spiritual journey of adults that includes periods for making inquiry and for maturing in the faith.

This spiritual formation process was created by the early Church to prepare adults for reception (initiation) as full members of the Catholic Church. While this is still one of the primary purposes that RCIA fulfills, the intent to join the Church is not required or even expected of those who wish to inquire about Church teachings and beliefs.

RCIA Classes begin Tuesday September 20, 2011
7:30-9:00PM
In the Father McGivney Room

RCIA provides catechesis – the education in the faith – which includes Catholic doctrine imparted in an organic and systematic way. At St. Timothy, all RCIA classes are taught by our Priests and Deacon. There is no cost for attending and no commitment – it is your decision if you wish to join the Catholic Church.

The first and last point of reference of this catechesis will always be Jesus Christ himself, who is the “way, the truth, and the life.” (CCC 1698)

(CCC) From the Catechism of the Catholic Church

The Desire for God The desire for God is written in the human heart, because man is created by God and for God; and God never ceases to draw man to himself. (CCC 27) “For you have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.” (St. Augustine, Confessions)

The Search for God Although man can forget God or reject him, He never ceases to call every man to seek him, so as to find life and happiness. But this search for God demands of man every effort of intellect, a sound will, “an upright heart”, as well as witness of others who teach him to seek God. (CCC 30)

Faith in God Faith is a personal act – the free response of the human person to the initiative of God who reveals himself. But faith is not an isolated act. No one can believe alone, just as no one can live alone. (CCC 166)

The Catholic Church Salvation comes from God alone; but because we receive the life of faith through the Church, she is our mother. “The pillar and bulwark of the truth, the Church “faithfully guards ‘the faith which was once and for all delivered to the saints.” (CCC 169 -171)
