Pro Life Updates

Two small updates and one BIG invitation follow:

1)   RESPECT LIFE PACKETS ON THE WAY! Thanks to all those who attended the recent diocesan Respect Life Conference on Palliative Care and the parish leader session. Respect Life Coordinators who were not able to pick up their USCCB Respect Life packets should look for them in the mail later this week. They will be sent to your parish to your attention. Materials are also in the mail to your pastor. An online version of the 2019-2020 Respect Life packet can be accessed here: The packet provides resources for parish programs beginning October 2019 and through next year.

2)   Virginia in Jeopardy: What’s at Stake for the Commonwealth and You: Please spread the word about the upcoming September 28 presentation by the Virginia Catholic Conference about what is at stake for life and religious liberty. All welcome, but if your parish is in the vicinity of St. Elizabeth Seton please make an effort to attend and bring 10 friends with you. More information and registration here:

3)   October 3 Defeating Assisted Suicide:

You are invited to attend a free training that will equip you with the tools needed to defeat the bill to legalize assisted suicide in Virginia– legislation that is expected to be reintroduced in the 2020 session.

  • Issue background and players
  • A history of the push to legalize
  • The importance of terminology, polling, and messaging
  • How to successfully engage in public debate
  • Strategies for delegating responsibilities and ensuring work is      accomplished
  • How to further build the state network

The training is offered by the Patients Rights Action Fund to educate and engage advocates in the legislative effort to protect Virginia’s law that prohibits assisted suicide.
