Fr. Meng and Bishop Burbidge’s Statements on the Sexual Abuse Crisis

My dear Friends,

In light of the disturbing revelations of the past month, Bishop Burbidge has written a letter regarding both the Pennsylvania grand jury report and the allegations made against the former Archbishop of Washington. I humbly request that you read his letter on this link.

I would like you to be aware that:

a.Our diocese immediately reports all allegations of any kind of abuse or neglect of children to appropriate legal authorities.

b.No priest or deacon against whom a substantiated claim of abuse has been made is currently serving in active ministry in our diocese.

c.Since 2002, every allegation of sexual abuse on the part of clergy has been investigated by our Diocesan Review Board, which from its very beginning has always been comprised of a majority of laymen and laywomen.

Please pray for the victims, one another, and for the Church.

With every best wish, I remain,

Sincerely, Yours in Christ
Rev. David P. Meng
Pastor
St. Timothy Catholic Church

Today, Bishop Michael F. Burbidge issued a letter to the faithful in which he addresses the ongoing child sex abuse crisis and the Pennsylvania grand jury report.

Bishop Burbidge has addressed this topic, as well as the credible and substantiated allegations of sexual abuse by Archbishop Theodore McCarrick, through statements, homilies, a letter to the priests of the Diocese of Arlington, and several podcast episodes. These are all listed on the diocesan Child Protection resource page.
